Featured Meal: Courgetti Bolognese

One of my most favourite meals to eat at the moment is courgetti bolognese. I talked about courgetti being a better tasting healthy alternative to spaghetti in my previous post and i thought i’d continue the theme in today’s featured meal post and share a healthy bolognese recipe to accompany it.

Courgetti bolognese - healthy sauce recipe


  • Turkey mince
  • Onion
  • Garlic cloves
  • Tin of tomatoes
  • Tomato puree
  • Herbs of choice (basil, etc)
  • Courgette
  • Oxo cube

I have been buying my courgetti already chopped from Tesco because i’m lazy and it’s good for portion size but you can make your own pretty easily with a spiralizer. Throw this in a frying pan with some fry light for 5 minutes and this will be good to go.

For the bolognese, start off by throwing your onion, mince and garlic into a pan. Some people use carrots or whatever else in their sauce but i’m happy enough with onion and garlic. I don’t hold back on these either because i like to taste these flavours in particular. Once your mince is brown, add in the tomatoes (sometimes i use one tin, sometimes two depending on how i feel). I also add a tablespoon or two of tomato puree to thicken up the sauce. If it’s two thick add a bit of water. At this point crumble in an oxo cube and add some herbs of your choice. Let this simmer for 5-10 minutes if you can be bothered to wait and serve up.

I like this recipe because it involves few ingredients and it is very simple. I also like it because it’s easy to customise and you can adjust it easily to your needs. You really can’t go wrong.
